1 killed after Oakland shooting, car crashes into parking lot

(KRON) — One person was killed after a shooting Sunday morning near Lake Merritt, the Oakland Police Department said. The shooting happened just before noon on the 1200 block of 1st Avenue.

Officers arrived at the scene and saw a victim with at least one gunshot wound, according to OPD. Medical crews tried to save the victim, but they died at the scene.

The victim’s identity is being withheld until their next of kin is notified, OPD said.

In the same area of 1st Avenue, a vehicle collision happened at Americas Best Value Inn at 122 E 12th St. A car crashed into the parking lot of the inn, striking through a gate. Video from the scene (above) shows police responding to the collision.

KRON4 asked OPD if the shooting and car crash were connected, but the department did not give us an answer.
