1 dies when tiny home goes up in flames in Santa Rosa

(KRON) — A body was found inside a tiny home that went up in flames in Santa Rosa Monday night. The tiny home, located on a property at 1594 Hampton Way, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene around 8:45 p.m., according to the Santa Rosa Fire Department.

“Following an aggressive fire attack, firefighters searched for victims and located one deceased male inside the structure,” the fire department wrote.

The tiny home had been installed less than two months ago on the commercial property, SRFD said.

“The City of Santa Rosa did not approve the installation or occupancy of the structure. The Santa Rosa Fire and Police Departments are still investigating the incident, including the cause of the fire. Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was likely accidental in nature,” fire officials wrote.

An autopsy will be conducted for the victim on Wednesday to determine his official cause of death. A Sonoma County Sheriff’s coroner is working to confirm the victim’s identity and notify his family.

The fire department’s investigators are working with the city’s Planning and Economic Department Building Division to find out who allowed the tiny home to be installed and used on the property.
