1 dead, 3 injured in one of 2 crashes where CareFlight was called in Clark County

Apr. 26—The Ohio State Highway Patrol has confirmed that one person has died and three others, including two children, were injured in one of two crashes where CareFlight medical helicopters were called Thursday in Clark County.

The fatal crash was reported at 6:12 p.m. at U.S. 68 at Fairfield Pike in Springfield Twp.

OSHP said that on preliminary investigation, they found that a Katharine D. Holder, 38, of Enon, was driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Fairfield Pike and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with U.S. 68.

The Jeep crashed into a 2012 Toyota Tundra, driven by Ryan Botkins, 44, of Yellow Springs, which was driving north on U.S. 68.

The Jeep went off the left side of the road, and the Toyota went off the right side before flipping over.

Botkins was flown to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he died due to his injuries. A passenger from the Toyota was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center via ground ambulance with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

A 12-year-old and an 8-year-old, who were also in the Toyota, were both taken to Dayton Children's Hospital with serious injuries.

Holder was not injured in the crash.

The highway patrol said that they suspect impairment played a factor in the crash, but it remains under investigation.

OSHP was joined at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, Springfield Township Fire Department & EMS, Hustead Emergency Services, CareFlight Air and Mobile Services and Maine's Towing & Recovery Services.

The other serious crash was reported at 3:50 p.m. on South Charleston Pike in Madison Twp. near the Madison County border.

It is not clear how many people were injured in that crash or what led to it.

This report will be updated as we learn information.
