The Arizona Diamondbacks swept three games from the Cincinnati Reds last week. The Diamondbacks (19-22) will attempt to do it again this week, beginning with Monday night's series opener (9:40 p.m.) between the teams in Phoenix. Arizona outscored the Reds (17-23) by 15-9 in sweeping a road set last Tuesday through Thursday. “I think any time you can salvage a series on the third day, it's big,” said Diamondbacks infielder Kevin Newman, who spent last season with the Reds.
Jake Cronenworth hit a tiebreaking grand slam in the seventh inning and Jurickson Profar had four hits for the San Diego Padres, who beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 Wednesday to take two of three in the series. Cronenworth hit his third career grand slam and the second for the Padres this season. It came after Tyler Wade opened the inning with a bunt single over the head of reliever Fernando Cruz (1-2), followed by Profar's single and Fernando Tatis Jr.'s walk.
The Cincinnati Reds have been down multiple regular lineup pieces all season and hit just .201 with 60 strikeouts during a 2-4 road trip to Texas, SD.
