Woman’s ‘Sexy Mom’ Halloween Costumes Mock Trashy Outfit Trend
Search the Internet for “sexy costumes,” and it returns an endless assortment of shiny, skimpy suggestions from your classic Playboy bunny to … sexy Barney. (Really.)
When you search for “mom costumes” it will offer you an array of gray wigs, curlers, and librarian glasses.
The message is clear: Moms aren’t sexy.
Suzanne Fleet is taking aim at the idea that everything has to be sexy — except motherhood — with her hilarious annual photo series: Sexy Halloween Costumes for Moms.
“It used to be there were sexy nurses and sexy cops and sexy Dorothy from the ‘Wizard of Oz,’ but now there is sexy anything-you-can-imagine,” the author and blogger told Today. “I was thinking about the ridiculousness of a woman pouting for the camera in a ‘Sexy Furry Bear’ costume, and it just came to me … how about ‘sexy’ Halloween costumes for real moms?”
For the second year in a row, Fleet gathered submissions from her fellow hard-working, writer-moms, and together they created a collection of costumes that are all too familiar for anyone who has experienced the trials and tribulations of motherhood.
Fleet’s series on her blog, Toulouse and Tonic, features everyone from the Shagalicious Short Order Cook (Terri Peters of Today Parents) to the Provocative Pooper Scooper (Ellen Williams of Sisterhood of the Sensible Moms). Each photo submission is accompanied by hilarious descriptions that pack a punch.
For example, Fleet suggests that you accessorize the Homeschooling Hottie (Jessica from Four Plus an Angel) “with your own feeling of utter chaos, a case of pencils, and a group of kids who don’t listen to a word you say.”
That’s pretty much as spooky as it gets.
As Leslie Marinelli of the blog In the Powder Room told Today, “Parenting is a tough gig, and moms need as many laughs as we can get in order to keep going every day. This is our way of saying, ‘Forget the Naughty Nurse and the Slutty Snowman — we’re real and we’re fabulous!”
