How to DIY 3 Frightfully Simple Halloween Cakes (Ps. You'll Need Oreos!)

With Halloween fast approaching (yes, it’s right around the corner!), we figured it was time to get our (spooky) creative juices flowing. October 31st has us thinking all things sweet, and some of our favorite treats just happen to be cakes - cakes in all shapes, sizes and guises. This delicious baked goods deserve a little dressing up of their own.

We’ve come up with a few fun and appropriately creepy ideas for a super sweet and ghastly Halloween. From dressing up a store-bought cake, to making your own, these ideas are frightfully good.

Oreo Googley Eyes Cake

Give your store-bought white cake eyes…lots and lots of blood-shoot, googley eyes. This Oreo decorating trick is so simple, but so effective.

Materials:

  • Store-bought white cake

  • Oreos

  • Brown M&Ms

  • Red food coloring

  • White frosting

Tools:

  • Toothpick or Wooden Skewer

Instructions:

1. Split your Oreos in half.

2. Squish one M&M into the center of each white cream center, as pupils.

3. Draw little lines as veins with a toothpick or wooden skewer and red food coloring, for a spooky effect.

4. Attach the eyes to your cake with white decorating frosting.

Graveyard Cake Dip

What’s better than dipping Milano cookies into cake dip? Dipping tasty tombstones into a crumbly, chocolatey graveyard!

Ingredients:

  • ½ box Chocolate cake mix

  • 1 cup Whipped Topping

  • ½ cup Vanilla Yogurt

  • ¾ cup Chocolate chips

  • Plain chocolate muffins

  • Milano cookies

  • Black decorating frosting

  • Gummy worms

Instructions:

1. Combine first 4 ingredients for the cake dip in a large bowl and mix well.

2. Spoon the dip into a pie plate.

3. Crumble muffins on top of the dip, to serve as “dirt”.

4. Write “RIP” in black food color gel on the Milano cookies, to serve as tombstones.

5. Place your tombstones and gummy worms in the “dirt” to create a graveyard.

Mummy Cake Pops

Nothing beats the perfect bite-sized cake - except, perhaps turning said bite-sized cake into a Mummy!

Materials:

  • ½ of a Vanilla pound cake

  • 2 tablespoons Vanilla frosting

  • 1 bag white “Candy Melt” chocolate

  • Candy googley eyes

  • Lollipop sticks

Instructions:

1. Crumble pound cake into a bowl and add the frosting.

2. Squish to combine.

3. Roll mixture into 2-tablespoonful-balls.

4. Melt your white “candy melt” chocolate.

5. Dip the cake balls in the melted chocolate, and allow them to dry.

6. Drizzle mummy lines with melted candy melt onto the dipped and dried cake balls.

7. Add eyes on the cake pop, before the chocolate dries.

9. Skewer them on sticks.
