YouTuber Pranks Bike Shop, Installs $1000 Drivetrain On Old Beater Bike

One thing that is nice about bike parts is that compared to other industries there is relative backward compatibility. Of course, this is only to a point.

Watch as a YouTuber pranks a bike shop by having a fake customer ask a bike shop to put AXS on a department store bike.

In this video, Seth Alvo of Berm Peak sent in a friend with a hidden camera to make a ridiculous request at the shop with a straight face.

The comical part of this is that the bike would not have been compatible without severe modification.

Seth had a friend at a component manufacturer who machined a special wheel and axle to fit on the 30-year-old bike with a different axle standard.

Without even smirking or making a comment the mechanic did what he was told and installed the drivetrain.

This video is a metacommentary on bike shop culture. Some mechanics have the reputation of being surly and talking down to customers. This shop employee instead was very open-minded and gave the installation a try, rather than condescendingly dismissing it out of hand.
