Wyoming Ski Area Closes For Season Due To Chairlift Problem

Hogadon Basin, WY, located on Casper Mountain, 11 miles south of Casper, had a 96-day-long season despite low tide conditions. But now, they were forced to close for the season for another reason entirely.

In a press release on their Instagram from the city of Casper, Wyoming, the letter addresses the "problem with Prospector chairlift." See below.

The superintendent of Hogadon Basin Ski Area said, "regretfully, it has been determined the necessary repairs to the chairlift cannot be completed before the end of the current ski season."

See Prospector Chairlift on the map below (the big red line in the middle). As you can see, it services nearly all of the terrain Hogadon Basin offers.

The resort reportedly relied on snowmaking for their season, but were able to get things open from Christmas onwards.

The city of Casper is addressing the issue and working to improve the experience for Casper residents.

Earlier, due to the lack of snow this season, Hogadon cancelled their Pond Skim event for their last weekend. However, the Alpine Touring event on April 13th is still occurring!

Sometimes, problems are just unavoidable, and Hogadon has communicated all of their thought processes and is working to solve the chairlift issue.
