World’s Largest Fish Is a Lot Bigger Than People Imagine It to Be

When you think about the world's biggest fish, how big do you imagine it to be? I guess I think about sturgeons and sunfish as big, and they are. But the very biggest fish? It's a whale shark!

@National Geographic TV shared a video on Monday, September 9th showing off just how big a whale shark is. They grow up to 40 feet long and weigh up to 20 tons. Now that's a big fish!

I love @National Geographic TV's informative and educational videos (there are some cute ones, too!), especially the ones that focus on the animals in the ocean. There are so many that I've never seen or heard of and it's all fascinating to me. I've seen whale sharks before but didn't know much about them. NGTV calls whale sharks 'gentle giants' and explain they feed on plankton. They're docile towards humans, and I hope to get to swim with one of them one of these days!

I wanted to know a little more about the gentle giants of the ocean so did some digging. Interestingly enough, the whale shark is part of the shark family. They don't have teeth or bite or eat pray, and when I think of sharks, I think of them doing all of those things! They like tropical waters and are rarely found in waters cooler than 70 degrees F, according to Wikipedia.

There were only a handful of comments left about the video, and none worth mentioning. But I watched the video several times because it was so peaceful...wonder if there's a way I can make it my screensaver?!
