The Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association is working hard to protect the Delta and its animals.

They are making homes so ducks can build their nests safely.

The ducks have also proven to love the boxes.

Kendall Dexter, President of Mobile County Wildlife and Conservation Association, says that they have noticed that ducks sometimes inhabit a new box within a week of installation.

How you can help

The MCWCA hosts events throughout the year where volunteers can help build and install boxes in the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta.

If you would like to install your own at your home, Dexter has some tips.

“Put them 50-75 yards apart….You want to get about 6 feet off the ground — 6 to 9 feet off the ground, predator-proof.”

Another tip?

“Put it in an environment that will be suitable for the ducks,” he said.

Or you can reach out to this group and they will walk you through the construction and installation.

“I think that is what our focus is. Try to get people to take an interest in the Delta and then gain an understanding in the value of it, and then do what they can to be good stewards of the Delta,” Dexter adds.
