The Women’s Center celebrates 50 years of service

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — This year marks 50 years since The Women’s Center opened its doors to serve the metropolitan area through mental health counseling, support, and education. Its vision: “Mental wellness so that all can thrive.”

Despite its name, The Women’s Center provides mental health services to clients of all gender identities, families, young adults, and children. The center also provides career coaching, therapy, and workshops.

Rachna Krishnan, CEO and Executive Director of The Women’s Center, stopped by the DC News Now Studio to chat about the impact The Women’s Center has on the community. The center’s annual leadership conference takes place on Saturday, April 6 in Northern Virginia.

Krishnan said, “I talk to our clients. They tell me, over and over again…’The Women’s Center has changed my life. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today if it weren’t for The Women’s Center.'”

The Women’s Center has two locations, one in Northwest D.C. and the other in Vienna, Va., which opened in August 2023. Annually, the center helps more than 3,000 clients, with over half of them receiving treatment and services free of charge or at a reduced fee.

The center’s annual leadership conference is an all-day event that will focus on building attendees’ personal and professional growth through forums, and networking sessions featuring high-profile speakers. It takes place at the Mclean Hilton in Tysons Corner, Va.

It’s just one of the many ways The Women’s Center is making a difference in the community.
