Woman thrown off British Airways flight for trying to smuggle cat in her luggage

A woman was kicked off a flight after she was caught trying to smuggle her cat on board inside her carry-on luggage. The passenger, who was bound for London’s Heathrow on a British Airways flight from Glasgow, Scotland, claimed that she needed her feline friend for “emotional support.”

British Airways cabin crew caught the passenger, an American, after she was told that she had to put her bag in an overhead compartment, as she was sitting by an emergency exit. They were not sympathetic to the woman’s pleas to keep the bag stowed under her seat and told her she was being removed from the flight — along with the cat, which was stowed in a box inside the bag.

According to a BA spokeswoman, the airline allows only medically approved service animals in the cabin, with advance notice required. Other animals must travel in the cargo hold.

The unidentified passenger is believed to have left the airport without booking another flight.
