  • A Reddit user revealed that her newly-engaged sister asked permission to edit herself into one of her old wedding photos featuring their late mom

  • "My little sister has told multiple people that when she gets married, she plans to hire someone with graphic design skills to remove me from that photo and Photoshop herself in my place," the Reddit user wrote

  • I’ve always felt hurt by that idea and now that she is actually planning a wedding, I am wondering if I should put my foot down," she explained.

One bride-to-be had a unique request regarding her older sister's wedding photos.

A Reddit user shared a post on the "Am I the Assh--- (AITA)" thread this week that her 28-year-old sister asked if she could edit her out of her own wedding photo and Photoshop herself in her place.

In the post, the 30-year-old female explained that she married six years ago and has since gotten divorced, but is now engaged again. Her younger sibling also recently got engaged and wants to edit a specific photo from her first wedding because their late mom, who died five years ago, is in the image.

"At my wedding six years ago, the photographer took a photo of my mom fastening a necklace around my neck. My little sister has told multiple people that when she gets married, she plans to hire someone with graphic design skills to remove me from that photo and Photoshop herself in my place," the Reddit user shared.

"So far, I’ve said nothing, but I’ve always felt hurt by that idea and now that she is actually planning a wedding, I am wondering if I should put my foot down. At the same time, I don’t want to add to her pain either," she added.

The Reddit user explained how she'd previously suggested her younger sister be given their mom's engagement ring, despite all of their siblings wanting it. However, she wrote that once her sister got engaged, "she decided to reset the ring so the only part of it that remains is the central diamond—it is a completely different design now and is unrecognizable. We are all a bit miffed by that, but what’s done is done."

The woman also pointed out they both wanted to use their late mom's wedding dress, but her sister wanted to "alter it beyond recognition" because she didn't want that style. "I proposed that we each wear it but not make significant alterations, but she brought up that 'I’m the only one who didn’t get to have mom at her wedding,' and I do feel for her, so I dropped my bid to wear the dress," the user wrote.

The woman has since shared an update, revealing that she spoke to her sister and asked if she'd be open to recreating the image and editing their mom into a new picture instead of altering the original photo from her wedding.

The Reddit user added that if her sister edited the image, it would be "painful" for her to look at. "She said she hadn’t thought about that and that she loves the idea of adding mom into a photo on her wedding day instead of putting herself in my place in that photo from mine," the woman wrote.

The woman also shared that the sisters reached an agreement regarding the altering of their mom's wedding dress.

"I reiterated my interest in the dress and used an additional idea from this thread to suggest she buys the dress she wants but does some of her bridal portraits in our mom’s (unaltered) dress. She seemed to like that idea and said she just wants to make sure she 'finds her dream dress' before she commits to going that direction," the user wrote.
