Woman Shows off a Rare Python With the Most Fitting Name

Are you a fan of snakes? I am not at all, which is why I was so surprised by how interested I was after seeing The Reptile Zoo show off a white and black python; it's the coolest snake I've ever seen!

The zoo posted the video on Monday, March 11th introducing us to a huge python with a very fitting name: Cow Reticulated Python. As soon as I saw the video and before even hearing what it was called, the first thing that popped into my head was that it looks like a cow! Listen in as the zookeeper shares a very interesting fact about this very big snake.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I'd like to hold that gigantic python, but I would like to see one in person! I thought it was cool to learn that these pythons are born completely white and develop spots as it gets older. I wondered how dark they actually get, and if they ever become almost a solid dark color. The Reptile Zoo fans left some cool comments including @That One Teacher who asked the question I was wondering, "Are the yellow spots where the future black spots will be?" and I loved @midnightrose83 suggestion, "Name it Oreo!"

More About Cow Reticulated Pythons

I fell down a rabbit hole of trying to learn more about these rare snakes. Pythons are the longest snakes in the world, and an adult can grow up to more than 20 feet in length. They'll also eat anything that they can overpower.

AtoZ Animals shared, "Wild reticulated pythons live in dense jungles and forests near water sources in south and southeast Asia. They are native to countries like Brunei, Bangladesh, and Cambodia." But what I found fascinating is what they shared next, "You won’t find a cow reticulated python in the wild. It’s a specialized color morph bred for the pet trade."

I mentioned I wondered if it would eventually turn all black, and the answer is, kinda. AtoZ says, "Eventually, a cow reticulated python ends up with as much black on the top as there is white on the bottom" so it truly is like an Oreo!

The next thing I wondered is how much they cost. I only did a quick search and was unable to find anything about how expensive they are, but normal reticulated pythons go from $500 to several thousand. Because these pythons are rare, I'm guessing several thousand would be a starting point for them.

The animal world is fascinating, and I am always up for learning more about it. I hope you find these facts as interesting as I did.
