Woman Left Baffled After Her Chickens Have ‘A Glitch in the Matrix'
There are not too many things that I've run across on TikTok that freaked me out, but this video that @brianna_antoinette is really bizarre. She shared the video at the end of November 2023, and it left all of us uneducated-about-chickens-people scratching our heads.
The video is about 2 and a half minutes long, but the weird starts happening right away. Brianna goes out to feed her chickens and starts talking to them and asking if they're ready to eat. They cluck and come up to welcome her, and then start acting strangely. She announces that it's grub time, but they're all frozen in place, not moving at all. It'll freak you out to watch it!
They're really pretty chickens, but their behavior is crazy! The next two minutes or so of @Brianna's video shows her trying to figure out what's going on with her chickens. She tries calling them, to try to get them to move. But they are literally frozen in place. Two minutes is a really long time, and it's not till the very end of the video that they start moving around again. The whole thing is just creepy!

Of course the video went viral because it was so weird. The video got more than 16 million views and nearly 50 thousand comments. @aut said, "Ummmm...this is like the best evidence I’ve seen for a glitch in the matrix" and Brianna's reply made me laugh, "LISTEN!! I thought the RAPTURE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. My mind was moving faster than my body". @Emersonjude shared, "Can we talk about how lucky she is she recorded. No one would have believed this story." @Ally joked, "Have you tried unplugging them and plugging them back in? LOL!"
Why Do Chickens Freeze In Place?
Everybody was wondering why in the world chickens would just freeze like this. My first thought was they saw a predator, but I wasn't sure. So I did some digging, and turns out, that's exactly what happened. Brianna was interviewed by Newsweek, and explained to the rest of us what her husband told her after she finished recording the odd scene and called him. He grew up on a farm, while she's never even been around farm animals before or ever thought she'd be raising chickens. He explained to her that this is the chickens' response to seeing a hawk that she didn't notice was circling above them.
It's a simple and logical explanation, but still very weird to see happen. I'm glad she recorded it for the rest of us to see!
