Make-A-Wish surprises Atmore girl with Barbie dream camper
ATMORE, Ala. (WKRG) — A wish 4-year-old Ana Lois Mercer made two years ago came true Wednesday in Atmore.

“A Barbie camper,” said Ana Lois. Not a toy camper — the real thing.
“We have had camper wishes but never a Barbie Camper so this is our first,” said President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Alabama Tracy Bennett Smith. So, they got to work. “We told them we wanted to Barbie-fy it and make it as pink as possible,” explained Smith.
The entire Mercer family saw it for the first time at the end of a long journey that started with a cancer diagnosis two years ago.
“She was our baby girl and she got sick,” said Ana’s mom, Megan Mercer. “It hit us out of nowhere.”
It’s the kind of news that drew a family and a community closer together in hopes of saving their little girl.
“These last two and a half years have been rough. We’ve had ups and downs, we’ve had heartache, we’ve had happy times, sad times. We’re thankful it’s almost over, Megan said.
Thursday the Barbie-loving little girl will ring the bell marking the end of her chemo treatments freeing her up for a trip or two in that new one-of-a-kind camper. “She has a little bit of a giggle when she’s excited and that giggle was just a giggling,” explained Megan.
“We can all go camping together now,” said Ana’s dad, Chez.
