Wisconsin's Trollhaugen Ski Area Inches Closer To Possible Reopening

Wisconsin's Trollhaugen Ski Area (Troll) held on bravely through one of the warmest winters in history, but closed for the season on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Mother Nature dropped 6 inches of fresh snow on Troll with "more on the way". Take a look at the pictures below, and check out the caption. Troll is hinting at possible "bonus days" in the near future.

Wisconsin is known for cheese, The Packers, beer, beautiful summers, and notoriously brutal winters. This winter, however, was anything but.

Ski areas struggled to keep trails covered with snowmaking as well-above-average temperatures and rain wreaked havoc.

Many Wisconsinites rejoiced at the reprieve from sub-zero temperatures, ice, and snow, but skiers in the region were left feeling cheated.

It's nearly April, but could this last ditch effort from Mother Nature provide solace to the aching hearts of skiers and riders? Perhaps.

According to weather forecasts, an additional 10-14 inches of snow could fall on Trollhaugen through the end of the weekend. Will that be enough to reopen some of Troll's slopes next week? Skiers across the area sure are hoping so.

To our Wisconsin and Minnesota readers: stick a spoon under your pillow, wear your pajamas inside out, make an offering to the snow gods. Do whatever lucky superstition you have to do to ensure that the storm delivers.

As a former Wisconsinite (I lived in Madison for four years after college), I'll be saying my prayers for you as well. LET. IT. SNOW!
