CosMc has been gone for a minute, but he's back in a big way.
The classic McDonald's character debuted in 1986 and faded into obscurity in 1992, but he's seeing a resurgence thanks to his namesake McDonald's spinoff restaurant.
The eateries will have a focus on snacks and beverages, as well as all-day breakfast.
"As part of a limited test, the first CosMc's location opens in Bolingbrook, Illinois, this month," McDonald's announced in a statement. "By the end of 2024, we plan to open approximately 10 CosMc's pilot locations, with more opportunities for mood-boosting escapes across the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas."

Who is CosMc?
Originally appearing in McDonald's marketing materials from the late 1980s through the early 1990s, CosMc was described in a vintage McDonald's manual as "a six-armed Outer Space alien, who's part vehicle, part creature" with coiled, spring-like antennae. His vehicle component is described as "a round Sputnik like object." He can retract his head and arms into his vehicle component when he isn't using them to grab things (like, say, McDonald's snacks) or blurt out cheerful quips.
He rocks blue shorts on his legs and matching sleeves on his arms along with sweet throwback kicks. He speaks in a "hip and unique mixture of Earth slang (both old and new) and electronic sounds." His personality is jovial and friendly (he even talks to plants!), and he has Amelia Bedelia-like tendencies to take language very literally.
If he were an earthling, he might've been a theater kid or a TikTok star, because he loves dancing, performing, skating and flying.

In his updated bio on the CosMc website, he's described as an extraterrestrial thief, an alien version of early iterations of Grimace (who used to steal milkshakes and have multiple arms). He was sent to McDonaldland to steal food to bring home to his space homeland, but instead decided to stick around once he tasted the wares.
He eventually went back to space, where he experimented with drink recipes. Feeling generous, he's back three decades later to share his favorites with Earth. Sounds like a pretty stellar guy to us.
