Whistler Bike Park Releases Tutorial for New Bike Carrying System

The Whistler Bike Park will open for the season tomorrow with a major new addition to the park.

In the offseason, Whistler installed a new bike-carrying system as part of their newly built Fitzsimmons 8-person chair. See the resort’s guide on how to load bikes below.

The new Fitzsimmons 8-pack, which was installed last summer, carries both bikes and humans on the same chair. This will vastly increase the uphill capacity of the lift.

In this tutorial, a Whistler employee explained how to load a bike onto the lift. With a new loading style, many visitors will need to adjust to the new technique. Whistler installed practice hooks outside the line that they are advising people to practice with before loading their bikes for real.

Controversially, the new system is not compatible with every type of bike fender. Riders who run a mud guard that interferes with the system will either need to remove it for the day or put their bike on the side hook.
