According to Vermont distillery WhistlePig, there are three main food groups: whiskey, waffles, and Maple Old Fashioneds. While it might be wise to add some fresh fruit and veggies to your diet as well, the distillery has you covered for the occasional indulgence with a new whiskey and waffles kit which it recently launched in partnership with the comedy troupe behind the movie Super Troopers.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Super Troopers movies, they are a pair of comedies with something of a cult following about a group of Vermont state troopers engaging in pratfalls and shenanigans (the fact that they take place in the Green Mountain State seems to be the connection to WhistlePig). Broken Lizard, the comedy troupe behind the movies and other projects like Tacoma FD and Beerfest, created a PSA promoting the new WhistlePig Whiskey Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup: Troopers Edition, which is basically the same as regular WhistlePig barrel-aged syrup but with a mustache on the label. They also issued a tongue-in-cheek statement that the Super Troopers were acquiring WhistlePig “in a completely above-board transaction at an abandoned airfield for an undisclosed sum of cash weighing 150 kilos,” and are trying to raise awareness about the ongoing maple syrup shortage (which apparently is a real thing).

WhistlePig seems to have a new release every few months over the past few years, including the second PiggyBank Rye decanter, a whiskey collaboration with the late Robbie Robertson, and a new terpene-infused non-alcoholic Old Fashioned. Add the new WhistlePig Whiskey & Waffles Kit to the list, which contains everything you need to whip up some boozy breakfast treats—a bottle of six-year-old WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye, some barrel-aged maple syrup (a collaboration with fellow Vermonters Runamok Maple), a bag of rye grain waffle mix to spice up your sweet, and a mini waffle maker. We were able to test the kit out and can report that it’s only slightly more involved than warming up some frozen waffles, the rye grain adds some flavor and texture, and the barrel-aged maple syrup is pretty tasty. You can purchase a Whiskey & Waffles Kit now from the WhistlePig website for $90 to try for yourself.
