Where to drive or avoid for Spring Bike Week and Black Bike Week. Expect traffic delays

Myrtle Beach Bike Week and Atlantic Beach Bike Fest will draw thousands of people into the Myrtle Beach area, congesting traffic and making it difficult for some motorists to drive.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week, also known as Harley Bike Week or Spring Bike Rally, starts May 10 and ends May 19 while Atlantic Bike Fest, also know as Black Bike Week, will be over Memorial Day weekend from May 24 through May 27.

Here are some areas that motorists may want to avoid to prevent traffic delays.

Ocean Boulevard

The worst part of Ocean Boulevard will be from 9th Avenue North to 16th Avenue North. After 4 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through the summer, Myrtle Beach Police will shut down the northbound lane and only allow through traffic headed south, The Sun News reported.

Over Memorial Day weekend 2023, Myrtle Beach implemented what some called a “chute” down Ocean Boulevard, where officials shut down the northbound lane for several miles.

This is also typically the part of the street where people enjoy cruising and showing off their motorcycles and vehicles.

U.S. 17 Business

During Spring Bike Week, many bikers head to the bar Suck Bang Blow in Murrells Inlet. That means U.S. 17 Business could get crowded fast. To avoid traffic, try to avoid the business highway from the MarshWalk through the Garden City area.

Bikers will also head to the Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson, located just outside the city near Myrtle Beach State Park. It could cause an excess of traffic along U.S. 17 Business near the campgrounds and Myrtle Beach State Park.

Kings Highway

During Black Bike Week, Atlantic Beach will host a celebration in the town. Traffic may be congested on Kings Highway from around 32nd Avenue to 28th Avenue and possibly more.

Police often set up a traffic chute that reduces lanes of traffic and directs those going to Black Bike Week through that one lane.

Motorists may see Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach busy as well.

Bikers may also head over to Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, so traffic could be busy in that area as well.
