As your friend who’s still way into Phish has mentioned several hundred times, this Saturday, April 20 is 4/20 — the unofficial holiday that celebrates all things, uh, leafy green.

According to the Associated Press, the connection between 4/20 and marijuana dates back to an early 1990s Grateful Dead concert (of course) when crowd members were given fliers encouraging them to “meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing in Marin County [Calif.] at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot.”

The smoker-friendly magazine High Times published the announcement, and the annual observances have continued ever since. (As a further footnote, the original connection between 4/20 and pot smoking was made in 1971 by a group of San Rafael High School students who met every day at 4:20 p.m. to…indulge together in the afternoons.)

Even if you choose not to participate in that part of April 20, you can still take advantage of some of these 4/20-related food deals and discounts: 99-cent tacos are for everyone, man.

Arby’s

This isn’t specifically a 4/20 deal, but April is Free Sandwich Month at Arby’s for Arby’s Rewards members. Once a week during April, anyone who is part of Arby’s free loyalty program will receive a digital deal that can be cashed in for a free sandwich. Those Free Sandwich deals are good on 4/20, and the chain says that “no sandwich is off limits” when it comes to your $0 dollar redemption.

Buffalo Wild Wings

From Wednesday, April 10 through Tuesday, April 30, wing-lovers can get six free wings when placing an online order for pickup or delivery. Like Arby’s month-long deal, this one is still valid on 4/20; to collect your free wings, you’ll need to spend at least $10 on other Buffalo Wild Wings food and/or beverages and use the code GOWING at checkout.

Carl’s Jr.

This week, all of Carl’s Jr’s burgers are $5 when ordered through the app, and the chain’s Famous Star with Cheese burger will be available as a BOGO deal on 4/20.

Del Taco

This weekend, from Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21, Del Yeah! rewards members can score an order of eight snack tacos for $4.20. And if you don’t want to leave your couch this weekend, from Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21, any delivery order of $15 or more will be driven straight to your door with a $0 delivery fee.

Dunkin’

The Massachusetts-based chain isn’t celebrating that 4/20, but it is going all in for National Cold Brew Day, which falls on the same day. On Saturday, Dunkin’ Rewards members can grab a free cold brew — including drinks with Cold Foam, flavor shots, or customizable swirls — with any additional purchase through the Dunkin’ mobile app.

Fatburger

On Saturday, Fatburger’s Original Fatburger will be $4.20 when ordered online. In addition, customers who order through Fatburger.com will get a free milkshake with their next purchase this month. (There’s no reason you can’t redeem that on 4/21, if you’re indulging in this highest of holidays all weekend.)

GoPuff

The delivery service will be offering Ben & Jerry’s pints for $4.20 all day on Saturday, and at 4:20 p.m., FAM members can use the code FAM20 to get a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked for just $1. (GoPuff also recently started stocking rolling papers and other smoking accessories from Seth Rogen’s Houseplant brand. Do with that info what you will.)

Insomnia Cookies

Anyone looking for a sweet treat from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21 can get a Classic cookie for free with a $5 in-store purchase. That's not all. You can also trade in a non-expired canned or packaged food item, which will be donated to a local food bank, for a Classic cookie.

Jack in the Box

This one is simple enough: any tacos ordered through the Jack in the Box app on Saturday will be $0.99 cents.

Jimmy John’s

If you’ve scrolled through Jimmy John’s Instagram account lately, you know they’ve been leaning hard into 4/20 culture lately, and they’re keeping that party going this weekend. On Saturday, the sub chain is offering the Jimmy John’s Deliciously Dope Dime Bag, which includes one “smoked ham and provolone cheese sandwich topped with Jalapeño Ranch, XTRA Oregano-Basil, sliced pickles crispy jalapeños and fresh-sliced lettuce and tomato,” along with a pickle spear, a Fudge Chocolate Brownie, and a side of Jimmy Chips. The $10 Dime Bag is only available for online order by using the code DIMEBAG.

KFC

If you spend $10 or more on an online order — or via the app — you'll receive 10 Saucy Nuggets for free. The popular chicken chain is also hosting an elevated one-day event in Venice Beach, California: a Saucy Nuggets Dispensary.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen

Through Saturday, April 20, Popeyes has a thematically appropriate Munchies Menu that offers any of its chicken sandwiches — including Classic, Blackened, Spicy, and Spicy Blackened — for $4.20 each. Chicken-craving customers can place their Munchies order online or through the Popeyes app.

Red Lobster

The seafood chain is offering a killer BOGO deal: Purchase an entree for on-site dining and get a Linguini Alfredo to take home for just $6. You can also get the Shrimp Your Way special to get three flavors for $20.

Smashburger

The chain has a Saturday-only deal, offering four Classic Smash Singles for $20. The quadruple burger deal can be redeemed through the Smashburger app, online, or in-store at participating restaurants.
