As much as we appreciate the design industry’s brightest luminaries opening the doors of their carefully curated spaces to reveal the occasional impulse purchase, heirloom piece, or treasured collectible, we’re more interested in the home-centric goods currently in their carts. In other words, what are they shopping for at this very moment? One such human whose cart we’re dying to dive into is Louise Roe, the British-born entrepreneur who named her home brand, Sharland England, after her great-grandmother. “I grew up surrounded by my great-granny’s antique furniture, much of it cane and rattan, and I fell in love with its ability to warm and charm a room,” she explains.

Before fully indulging in her passion for all things interiors, Roe lived and worked in Los Angeles as both a fashion journalist and broadcaster. “I styled the at-home shoots for InStyle, and that rare peek into other people’s spaces struck a chord with me,” she admits. So, after nearly a decade in America, Roe and her photographer husband, Mackenzie Hunkin, packed up and moved back to London. Shortly after arriving in her home country, the English trendsetter launched her business and a gorgeous Instagram account to go with it. “Now more than ever, home is a sanctuary from the outside world, a place to feel nurtured, welcome, and, I hope, inspired. I love conjuring up those notions,” she adds. Not only does she enjoy attempting to make people feel comfortable and at home in their spaces, but she’s also quite good at it. Her eye, which was originally well trained in fashion, now serves her well in her new venture: home.

Ahead, we asked Roe to offer us a glimpse into her online shopping carts from various retailers—both big name and small batch—and share what’s captured her attention as of late. Beware: You’re going to be tempted to add everything she picked to your wish list as well.

Splatter Verona Vase

“Our Verona urns are super popular, especially in the larger size. I like to fill mine with long branches—blossoms in the spring and holly in the winter, whatever I can forage for outside to be honest— and display it as people enter the house,” Roe explains. “The vase is handmade in Southern Italy, in a seventh-generation family workshop.” In fact, everything for sale on Sharland England’s site is made by hand from small factories or artisan workshops. This beautiful vase comes in four splatter colorways, and Roe’s favorite is the terracotta and cream. “It is truly a statement piece.”

Home at Last: Enduring Design for the New American House by Gil Schafer III

“I am slowly soaking up this delicious book on weekends when I can escape to a quiet chair,” Roe admits. “I think Gil is a genius, and I always learn something practical, as well as creative, from his designs. I listened to a podcast recently where he shared he initially veered away from pursuing architecture, thinking he wasn’t mathematically-minded enough. Thank goodness he changed his mind!”

Pedro Lamp Base

"A favorite brand and designer in the interiors space, I share Carlos Lopez's love of all shades brown—from terracotta and mustard to rust and chocolate. I've had this gorgeous glossy lamp base on my wishlist for ages and I need to grab it. Just imagine how many stunning fabric patterns could be made into the perfect lampshade." It also comes in an emerald green, a royal blue with white splatter designs, and cherry red, among a few others.

Blueberry Ristipisto Corduroy Pillow

The Six Bells is a general store in Brooklyn that’s modeled after a fictional Cotswolds village. “The owner Audrey [Gelman]'s taste is spot-on, and she has the most exquisite, unique cross-stitched corduroy cushions,” Roe says. “I love this shade of blue, with some neutral and brownish undertones.” Pop it on your bed for a moment of deep, saturated color, or let it shine on its own on your favorite armchair.

Blue Squares Quilt

“I’m obsessed with these vintage-inspired quilts,” Roe says. “They add a touch of old Americana to my very traditional English decor. The blue hues pair really nicely with the cushion above and all my old patinated wooden furniture.” Though it may look like it belongs in a vintage shop, this quilt is made to order, so there’s no rush to buy the only one.

Allen Throw

This mustard throw warms up any room. “It’s a pop of color without being too bright, and the perfect way to add some cozy, tonal layers to the scheme,” Roe notes. This throw also comes in nine additional hues if mustard doesn’t work with your space. “I have throws on the back of chairs, arms of sofas, and we even keep a basket full of rolled-up blankets and throws in the TV room for movie nights,” she adds. “This one is a blend of Belgian linen and alpaca, so it could not feel more luxurious and decadent.”

Piolo Bamboo Chair

“This chair is a labor of love: It takes our artisans days to hand-torch and manipulate the pieces of rattan, so the final effect feels like antique tiger bamboo,” Roe explains. The cushion comes in three colorways and, according to the designer, is inspired by a vintage Anatolian design she found. Roe loves the brick red version, which she describes as “rich and warm.”

Silhouette of a Vase 21 by Eleni Psyllaki

“I often source from Artfully Walls, as they have a huge but really well-curated selection of art, so you don’t feel lost as you look, and you can also choose your mount and frame,” Roe says. We at HB are huge Artfully Walls fans too. If you’re interested in curating a gallery wall, Artfully Walls is a wonderful place to start your search for beautiful art. “I have this Eleni Psyllaki print hanging in my dressing room and love the tones of brown,” she adds.

Clover Dome Paperweight

“Before we left L.A., a friend had a very glamorous garage sale and laughed at how much I bought to then transport back to London with me,” Roe recalls. “But one of those pieces was this paperweight, and everyday when I sit down at my desk with my cup of tea, it makes me smile. Apart from having a practical use, objects like this, collected throughout different moments of your life, really do bring with them happy memories.”
