West Loop restaurant named Top 100 in the world

CHICAGO — In the first of a two-part release, at least one Chicago eatery has been named a top 100 restaurant in the world, and it calls the city’s West Loop neighborhood its home.

According to The World’s 50 Best, Smyth’s is the 90th best restaurant in the world.

Located at 177 North Ada Street, Smyth took its spot in an extended list from the renowned restaurant reviewer publication, who will reveal their top 50 restaurants around the world on Wednesday, June 5, in Las Vegas.

Rachael Hogg, the writer behind The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list from 51-100, had this to say about Smyth:

“For chef John Shields and his pastry chef and partner Karen, Smyth is a distillation of two decades of experience at the forefront of the Chicago dining scene. Today, the duo meld modern techniques with ancient ones, with many dishes cooked or finished over an open-fire grill. Nearly all of Smyth’s produce comes from just 20 miles away, on a plot of land simply called The Farm, where they grow more than 200 varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs.”

The selection to The World’s 50 Best’s top 100 restaurants around the world adds to the West Loop fine diner’s of recent high profile awards.
