Waterpark opens season with fresh look
May 24—Visitors to River Country Family Water Park can expect safer, brighter facilities this year, Assistant Director-Recreation Brooke Hall said.
The water park, which begins its 25th season Saturday, got resurfaced and repainted in many areas. Hall said it was River Country's largest update so far.
"We have made some changes over the years, but this is the first time we have made major capital improvements," she said, adding that the improvements were funded through City of Muskogee Foundation grants and the Capital Improvement Project tax.
"We are thankful for the ability to be able to make improvements to the existing facilities," she said.
New decking tile and gutters surround the main pool and lazy river, she said.
"This should correct some maintenance problems with tiles breaking," Hall said. "We repaired and painted around the Lazy River."
The large pool and kiddy pool have safer entries.
"We have our beach entry area added a softer surface," Hall said. "It adds some color. The tiles are a softer, more cushiony surface."
Big slides and other main structures have been repainted.
The park opens for the summer at 11 a.m. Saturday and will be open Sunday and Memorial Day. The park will be closed Mondays through summer.
Spaulding Pool, which has been repainted, opens Saturday as well.
All the city splash pads are in operation, Hall said.
Work has begun on the Splash Pad at Langston Park and should be ready for summer 2025.
