Toby Keith

Toby Keith never stopped doing what he loved.

Just two months before the country icon passed away, he was on stage giving fans the performance of a lifetime.

Keith—known and loved for country hits like "I Love This Bar," "Should've Been a Cowboy," and "Red Solo Cup"—died on the evening of Monday, Feb. 5, after fighting stomach cancer for over two years. He was 62 years old.

But less than two months prior to his untimely passing, Keith played three sold out shows in Las Vegas, where fans got to hear him perform some of his most memorable hits, for what they didn't know, would be the very last time. Among them was his emotional 2019 track, "Don't Let the Old Man In," about doing your best to keep time and age from catching up to you.

On Dec. 28, Keith shared footage from the shows at MGM Park, calling the three-night run "a damn good way to end the year."

He also shared a celebratory New Year's Eve post on social media, writing in his caption, "Been one hell of a year with a lot to be grateful for. Here's to 2024!"

The following month, Keith sat down for an interview with News 9, where he opened up about his health journey and the "dark hallways" that a cancer battle entails.

"Cancer is a roller coaster, so it's like, you just sit here and wait on it to go away, and it may not ever go away," he said at the time. "If it goes into remission, it will still be in the back of your mind."

But Keith said he had eventually learned to accept his fate, and with the help of his faith, he "got to the point where I was comfortable with whatever happened. I had my brain wrapped around it, and I was in a good spot either way."

He died peacefully Monday night while surrounded by those he loved most. His family released a statement to his official website and social media pages to confirm the news and let fans know that Keith "fought his fight with grace and courage."
