A resurfaced interview of Toby Keith is shedding new light on his state of mind in the weeks leading up to his passing.

The country music icon died at the age of 62 on Monday, Feb. 5, following an over two-year battle with stomach cancer.

But just two weeks before his tragic passing, Keith sat down for an interview where he opened up about his health and talked about coming to terms with the future ahead of him.

"It's a lot of dark hallways," Keith told News 9's Rob Marsh in the interview, which aired Wednesday, Jan. 24. "Cancer is a roller coaster, so it's like, you just sit here and wait on it to go away, and it may not ever go away."

"If it goes into remission, it will still be in the back of your mind," he stated.

At the time, Keith confirmed he was doing okay, though he was still in treatment. He had already been undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation since first being diagnosed in 2021.

Throughout his difficult health journey, the "I Love This Bar" crooner revealed having his faith to "lean on" has made all the difference, especially in terms of accepting what the future might hold.

“I was going through all the chemo, radiation, surgery, and I got to the point where I was comfortable with whatever happened," he candidly stated. "I had my brain wrapped around it, and I was in a good spot either way."

Less than two weeks after that interview was published, Keith passed away "peacefully" while surrounded by those he loved most.

"He fought his fight with grace and courage," a statement made to his official website and social media pages read.

The "Don't Let The Old Man In" singer is survived by his wife Tricia Lucus, and his three children—Shelley, Lucus' daughter from a previous relationship whom Keith adopted when they got together, as well as a daughter named Krystal and a son named Stelen. Keith and Lucus also have a number of grandkids.
