Watch Out Beauty Vloggers, Here Comes Karlie Kloss [Video]

Karlie Kloss just debuted her first beauty tutorial on YouTube — and it’s very “Klossy.” Even in the glamorous world of a supermodel who is BFFs with Taylor Swift, it takes an expert to contour those cheekbones. After all, other beauty vloggers don’t talk about meeting their celebrity makeup artist, Sir John, seven years ago backstage at a Dior show, or prep for a night out with Derek Blasberg and Lily Aldridge, or hang in traffic with Gigi Hadid.

For her first beauty lesson, Kloss and Sir John recreate her Met Gala 2015 look. “What I like to do is start with the brows because brows frame your face,” Sir John explains. “The good thing is that they can also become a statement piece as well.” Kloss added, noting her preference for a strong brow. “Eyebrows are a rather accentuated part of my facial features. They’re like, little exclamation points above my eyes. Sir John recommended using both a brow pencil and powder in the morning, especially if you’re oily, because the brows will fade throughout the day.

For the eyes, Sir John used a taupe-colored eyeshadow — without using a primer or base. “Taupe is every girl’s best friend,” Kloss said. Sir John also has a special technique for eyeliner: he draws three dots to pinpoint where the line will go. “Honestly ladies, it’s okay to do maybe five to seven lines,” he said, giving Kloss a dramatic cat eye. The mascara technique is akin to brushing your teeth. “Back and forth, back and forth,” he advises.

“This is kind of a strong statement for the eye, but when it comes to the skin, I think that less is more,” Kloss noted. Sir John, who went to art school and was a painter, applied a thin layer of foundation using an Artis Oval 7 Brush and only used concealer under the eyes. “It’s all about the brushes,” he notes. He also shares his contouring technique on Kloss’ enviably high cheekbones. “Take what your mama gave you, and give it a little push,” said Kloss.

They end on a tip that Sir John learned straight from from Beyoncé — use your finger to tap color on your lips, and form a “fish mouth” (pursing your bottom lip over your upper lip) a couple of times to use the bottom color to make the top lip fuller.

Most people aren’t walking the red carpet regularly like Kloss, but that’s not stopping from her from sharing some everyday glam. “If you try this look at home, be sure to send us a pic!,” she wrote in the YouTube comments.
