Buying unique and stylish workout clothes is, honestly, part of the fun of going to the gym. Plus, it’s so easy now with retailers like Target making them affordable. However, sometimes you truly just need a basic pair of workout shorts. Ones that are comfortable and allow you to move around. You know, they get the job done without frills. But that also doesn’t mean your shorts can’t be buttery-soft and flattering too. Walmart has a pair of performance workout shorts that are crowd-pleasers and a fraction of the price of shorts from retailers like Lululemon and Athleta.

These best-selling shorts in question are the Athletic Works Women’s ButterCore Soft Performance Gym Shorts. They’re currently $6.98, have a 4-inch inseam and come in sizes XS through XXXL and 1X through 4X in their plus size options. They have a “brushed jersey fabric” made of 89% polyester and 11% spandex that is “buttery-soft,” hence the name. It’s also moisture-wicking “to help keep you cool and dry.”

These shorts have an elastic waistband with a drawstring tie to adjust their tightness. They’re a mid-rise style and have two front pockets. And while Walmart does have the “Best Seller” pin on these shorts, the reviews alone can tell you how much shoppers love them. It currently has a nearly 5-star rating and 1,562 reviews.

“The material on these shorts is buttery soft which I love,” one customer wrote after calling the shorts comfy overall. “Comfortable waistband. I love that it has pockets. I like the length on these shorts, not too long but not too short… Overall, very soft and comfortable shorts!"

Another review says that these are “Great shorts for running or lounging."

"These are unbelievable shorts for this price!” they gushed. “They are extremely comfortable, made of moisture-wicking material, But softer than usual. The length is upper thigh, making them great for running or just lounging around the house. The waistband is wide, which prevents cutting into your waist. I love that there are pockets, because who doesn't love pockets."

As we said up top, these shorts are not only a good product for the price, they’re also similar to products that are much more expensive. These are pretty close to Lululemon’s new Softstreme High-Rise Short 4” ($78), which has the same inseam and a similar fabric makeup.

They’re also similar in fabric to Athleta’s Crossover High Rise Run Short. These are currently $59 and are made with 86% Recycled Polyester and 14% Spandex. They have built-in shorts, while Walmart’s shorts do not.

But if you’re looking for basic workout shorts that are still cute and comfortable, then Walmart’s Athletic Works ButterCore Soft Performance Gym Shorts might just be the choice for you.
