While scouring real estate listings for dream homes often feels like an out-of-reach fantasy, renting one as a vacation rental can easily give you a taste of that high life, even for a few days. Just on Vrbo alone, there are two million global listings to scroll through, ranging from beachfront getaways to mountain hideaways. So, the vacation rental booking company honed in on the highlights, announcing its 2024 Vacation Rentals of the Year.

“What stands out to me is the variety in this year’s Vacation Rentals of the Year — from cool places with game rooms for kids to wine caves for grown-ups, at nightly rates ranging from $550 to $3,000,” Jon Gieselman, Expedia Brands' president, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure. “This list exemplifies the caliber of private vacation rentals across Vrbo.”

Spread across the country from California to Massachusetts, as well as dipping into the U.S. Virgin Islands and Mexico's Cabo San Lucas, the properties indeed encompass a wide range on the booking platform.

One of the highlights is the Italian-inspired Villa Montebella in California's Sonoma Valley’s Glen Ellen with an onsite vineyard, library, theater room, oversized kitchen, and spa with steam and sauna rooms. The true gem: a wine cave filled with art, a dining space, and a game room.

Over on Lake Monomonac in Winchendon, Massachusetts, there’s Copley’s Lakefront Cottage, described as a “Belgian-style farmhouse” on the Massachusetts-New Hampshire border, with its own private beach and dock.

Finally, for those looking to get off the mainland, Villa Cin Cin in St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands sits outside of Cruz Bay and was custom-built to have identical primary ensuite bedrooms so everyone has the best room in the house.

Meanwhile, down in Cabo San Lucas, Casa Acantilado is an “extraordinary cliffside villa” with “an uninterrupted blend of indoor and outdoor living spaces” with views of the ocean from the pool, sauna, and hot tub.

To come up with these 10 winners, Vrbo looked at thousands of listings taking into consideration guests' reviews and ratings, which all needed to be five-star. These winners all have hosts with premier status and family-friendly amenities — and are among the most popular bookings on the platform.
