Volunteers to help clean up with Boneyard Creek Community Day this weekend

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Volunteers are gearing up for the 17th annual Boneyard Creek Community Day this weekend.

The date for the event is Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.

“Boneyard Creek Community Day is a way to celebrate and protect our lakes and streams by engaging volunteers to pitch in and clean,” the event’s website reads.

Some places volunteers will clean up include Scott Park, Kaufman Lake, UI Campus and Kickapoo Rail Trail. A free lunch will follow after clean-up.

45 more course volunteers needed for Illinois Race Weekend

Last year, more than 500 volunteers cleaned up more than 1660 acres of land.

Online registration has closed, but onsite registration is available at Scott Park Saturday. Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and past orange Boneyard Creek Community Day shirts.

More information can be found on Boneyard Creek’s website.
