Visitors flock to Oceanfront for Memorial Day weekend

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Memorial Day weekend means tons of people rushing to the beach to relax and enjoy being near the ocean.

VB Oceanfront gears up busy Memorial Day weekend

And Saturday was no exception, as people took advantage of beautiful weather for a full day of fun and sun on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

There were people on jet skis on the water, people playing volleyball in the sand, and plenty of others spending time in Oceanfront businesses.

“Just enjoying ourselves,” said Hampton resident Josef Taylor. “It’s a beautiful day. Everybody’s got their families out and it’s just a beautiful day to be alive and just enjoy yourself and family.”

Many others shared his positive, laid-back attitude.

“I was hoping it would be nice and warm, which it is,” said Aatika Wright. “I’m just catching the breeze and feeling the vibes.

Not only are people enjoying the holiday weekend, but Oceanfront businesses are enjoying it also.

Parkerson Hague, general manager at Ocean Eddie’s, said it’s their busiest day of the year thus far.

“We actually opened for breakfast this morning at 8, as we do every Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” Hague said, “and right off the bat, it was pretty busy.”

But he said he and his staff were prepared for the rush.

“Our kitchen has been prepping earlier today,” Hague said. “Our staff all arrived early for their shifts, so everything’s going pretty smoothly right now. Tonight should be fun.”

Hague said he expects the same large crowds at Ocean Eddie’s for the rest of the Memorial Day weekend.
