Video of Hedgehogs Walking Around in Tiny Flip Flops Has People Obsessed

Hedgehogs are an interesting animal, and one that you don't see as pets very often. TikToker Mundo Erizos (which translates to Hedgehog World) has a couple of adorable hedgehogs that she shows doing all kinds of cute things. She shared a video at the beginning of January 2024, and it's beyond adorable!

The video starts with her hedgehogs sitting in front of a pile of tiny flip flops. She moves the pile away and puts a yellow pair and green pair in front of the two. In the next clip, we see the little hedgehogs with the little flip flops on their back feet, making their ways down the hallway. Next, mom has each of them sitting separately in her lap, showing off their kicks...they don't seem to mind them at all!

I have so many questions for @Hedgehog World! How does she get them to let them put the little flip flops on them? How does she get them to keep them on? Where did she even find flip flops that small? Turns out that commenters answered that last question - many people said you can find the shoes on Temu and Shein....who knew! Commenter @Jordan left a comment that a lot of people agreed with after watching the cute video, "I need a hedgehog".

Interesting Facts About Hedgehogs

Many people agree that hedgehogs seem like a fun pet. I don't know a whole lot about them, but I know enough to know that a hedgehog wouldn't be an ideal pet for our family. I thought it would be fun to learn a bit more about them, so I headed to Google.

The first thing I wondered is why they roll themselves up into balls. Anytime a hedgehog feels threatened or anxious, they roll themselves up to protect themselves. My son wanted a hedgehog, so we went to our local pet store (Side note: this is when we lived in a state where they are legal - they are considered an exotic pet and illegal in several states) to see about getting him one. They had a few to choose from and none of them would even unroll so that we could see them! They have between 5 and 7 thousand quills on their bodies and will raise them if threatened. Unlike porcupines, their quills are not poisonous.

I also learned that these guys have very poor eyesight and rely heavily on their hearing and sense of smell. But my favorite fact is about how they got their name. Hedgehogs love hanging out in garden hedges, so that's where the first part comes from. They also make pig-like grunts, which is where the second part of their name comes from...I guess hedgepigs just doesn't flow as easily off the tongue as hedgehogs does!

If you're considering getting one after seeing this cute video, make sure to do your research about the pros and cons of having one as a pet. It might end up being your dream pet or a pet you'd never bring home.
