Vermont's Mad River Glen Reporting 30 Inch Storm Total

Mad River Glen, VT, has one of the most memorable ski resort slogans ever: "ski it if you can." Right now, this may not apply: MRG is reporting a 30 inch storm total.

In what has been dubbed Miracle March for East Coast resorts, Mad River Glen joins the mountains covered in snow following dismal conditions just a week ago.

One final inch of this 30 fell overnight to dust things off for this morning.

According to Mad River Glen's conditions report, "Midstation Brian officially declared conditions as deep."

This comes after one week ago, General Manager Matt Lillard said, "we are going to fight to stay open as long as we can" due to the icy conditions and low snow year the resort has had so far. Though a March warm-up was predicted, things changed for the better with this 30 inch storm.

Today is a beautiful sunny day for skiing at Mad River Glen. The temperatures are warm, reaching the 40s, but will be colder this morning, leaving the snow light and fluffy. The icing on the cake is the light winds.

The mountain reports that the fresh snow has begun to shape into moguls, with the snow being packed pow.

Due to the gusty winds yesterday, exposed areas may be dicier. The trees, however, held snow and may be the best choice for powder chasers today.

The report also issued a warning, while "the storm delivered a perfect recipe for skiers with a foot of cement followed by powder galore. Hazards are out there with snow snakes and open water hiding just below surfaces. Catch the tail of the storm before it gets warm; get it while you can."

"Be aware under new snow lurks large ice patches that boiled up to the surface on mid-mountain trails."

In other words, conditions are variable and the snowpack is thin.

Uphill travel is open on Mad River Glen's designated route during operating hours for pass-holders and shareholders.
