'Miracle March' Hits Vermont With 12+ Inches Of Snow

Stratton Mountain, VT, was among the resorts who got hit with fresh snow right before the weekend. For the state, power outages and Winter Storm Warnings also meant fresh powder.

Yesterday (Sunday), Stratton posted a photo documenting their soft conditions, writing, "Sunday Funday delivered."

Stratton saw 15 inches of fresh snow in the last 48 hours, with 3 inches of that coming down in the last day.

The eastern slopes of the Green Mountains got hit first, with dense snow, and the western mountains will now see lighter snow.

Sunday morning, according to VTOutages, the power outages were concentrated in Washington, Orange and Rutland counties, with the greatest number in the Mad River Valley towns of Warren, Waitsfield and Fayston.

According to the National Weather Service, Warren received 12 inches overnight. About 12.5 inches of snow dropped in Braintree, 11.5 inches in Rochester and 10 in Williamstown and Northfield, according to the weather service, while most other parts of the state received 1 to 6 inches.

Smuggler's Notch saw 6 inches overnight, to now have a season total of 183 inches.

Killington saw 14 inches in the last 24 hours, with 23 inches in the last 48 hours.

Sugarbush saw 8 inches in the last 24 hours, with 16 inches in the last 48.

Mad River Glen saw 3-4 inches in the last 24 hours, with 6-10 inches in the last 48.

This morning, Jay Peak Resort, VT, reported somewhere between 6-8" overnight, according to snow stake stashes.

Their storm totals come in at 18" so far with continuing flurries.

However, the resort is currently battling winds of up to 30 mph with gusts more than doubling that.

Yesterday, Jay Peak also showed the new snowfall with a post to X (twitter). See below.

Even with the fresh snow, the snowpack is thin at many Vermont resorts. Regardless, the new snow is a welcome introduction to Spring skiing for East Coasters.
