TOTAL: 98/100

I wish I could say that I have an adventurous sense of style, but I am, and always have been, a creature of habit. My uniform: a white T-shirt, jeans and a loose-fitting blazer. As someone who grew up wearing private school uniforms, I take comfort in the familiarity of having my outfit pre-planned. It eliminates stressful 30-minute FaceTime calls with my sisters, frantically asking, “Does this look cute with these jeans, or do we like the other one better?” Time and time again, I revert to the workhorse in my capsule wardrobe: my Aritzia Producer blazer ($238).

Even after five years of wear, here's why I’m forever devoted to it.

The PureWow100 is a scale our editors use to vet new products and services, so you know what's worth the spend—and what's total hype. Learn more about our process here.

It’s the Ultimate Basic Blazer

As I previously mentioned, the Producer blazer from Aritzia’s in-house Babaton brand is a basic staple you can count on when you’re running late or simply just don’t know what to throw on. It’s a modern take on a traditional blazer, featuring a single-breasted design with one button and a more feminine version of a tuxedo lapel.

I find that it has a tailored-but-oversize fit, hanging straight on me with a roominess inside that is neither cinched nor gargantuan in any way. To put it in denim terms, for my fellow jeans hoarders, I’d deem it the straight-leg jean of blazers. It even has traditional aspects to it, from button closures at the sleeve vents to a back vent for movement and functionality.

The blazer carried me through my first job interview, post-undergrad (see picture below) and accompanied me to the office for the first time (see picture above). Suffice to say, it’s a sentimental piece I’ll hold on to forever, and lucky for me, it’ll never go out of style.

It’s Built to Last (for Literal *Years*)

Seeing that I’ve held on to this baby for five years and it still looks and feels just as good as it did the day I bought it, yeah, you can say it’s long-lasting. My specific style of blazer is no longer sold, but the latest version on the Aritzia website has the exact same design and construction. The only differences are some sight changes to the material.

With an effort to up its sustainability commitments, the blazer is now made from recycled materials and fabric responsibly sourced from a premier Portuguese mill, per the brand, in an attempt to reduce their carbon footprint. The body of Aritzia’s Producer Blazer is comprised of 61 percent recycled polyester, 26 percent lenzing ecovero viscose, 7 percent cotton and 6 percent elastane, and the lining is 58 percent polyester and 42 cupro.

In comparison to other blazers I own, the fabric feels lightweight yet sturdy. Its density is quite thin—like a thick silk—but its delicacy doesn’t feel cheap whatsoever, and the softly structured stretch fabric bends and moves with you, so the materials never awkwardly bulge and there aren’t any ginormous ‘80s shoulder pads you traditionally see in oversize fits.

Get this: The interior feels even silkier than it does on the outside, thanks to the poly-cupro lining. I’ve been able to wear almost any blouse underneath, minus some garments with structured puff sleeves. I do have to dry clean it, but I have yet to come across a high-quality blazer that doesn’t require professional care. And for the amount of wear this blazer endures, it doesn’t dirty or stink easily (and I sweat…a lot), so I’m able to get many wears in-between cleans.

Now that alone makes it deserve a ‘Blazer of the Decade’ award if there ever was one.

Make way for another classic that’ll stand the test of time. There are a couple key differences between the New Generation blazer and the Producer blazer: 1) It has shoulder pads and 2) it’s made with Aritzia’s famous Crepette fabric that’s known for its drape and wrinkle-resistance.
