The Vans Surf Team Scored Epic Waves On the North Shore Earlier This Year

The North Shore was in full effect last month when the first big swell of the season hit after months spent with the ocean flat as a lake.

Pros who call the North Shore home scored huge barrels at Pipeline and massive Rocky Point after a summer spent chasing waves in Indo, Australia, Tahiti, and even South Africa.

But despite its reputation as a surf-obsessed pro magnet, there's more to it than that. It's a tight-knit community with an elementary school at Pipeline, a bike path where neighbors catch up, and real life for real people blends in between countless contests and pro sightings.

In the new edit from Vans above, its team members blend surfing with a taste of real life on the North Shore.

Vans captioned the video:

"This film is an intimate look at the Vans surf team on the North Shore of Hawaii during January of 2023.

"It's about the cultural connections and expressions of gratitude between surfers and the local community. 'What's The Call?' explores all those special moments in between sessions and what it looks like when the right call is made."

It features some surfers who call the North Shore home like Nathan Fletcher and Nathan and Ivan Florence, along with a handful of other team riders like Tosh Tudor, Dane Gudauskas, Mikey February, and a bunch more.

Don't worry, it's not just those "in between" moments mentioned above. There's a lot of surfing, and a lot of big barrels.

Press play above for almost 20 minutes of a day on the North Shore.
