'Tis the season for big fat barrels at Pipeline.

The legendary North Shore wave awakened yesterday as a huge swell with waves reportedly maxing out at 25 to 30 feet hit Oahu's northern coastline.

As luck would have it, it was on John John Florence's 31st birthday, and Pipe gifted him huge barrels and an uncrowded session for the big day. Even better, he surfed with his brother, Nathan, who said the lucky "near empty" lineup was thanks to Pipeline's "huge and unruly" conditions.

Nathan posted the clip above last night and captioned it:

"Last night was epic! Huge and unruly Pipeline on you to find some gems, me and @john_john_florence traded off on a few nugs in a near-empty lineup on his birthday to boot! Happy bday bro."

The video shows the brothers taking turns pulling into, and getting spit out of back to back huge barrels.

Viewers were mind-blown after watching the footage. Here's a few of their comments:

One viewer asked: "Why is it so empty?? Was it that gnarly out?"

Nathan responded: "Not user-friendly that's for sure"

While local chargers were having fun the North Shore Lifeguard Association was going full-force.

News teams were reporting live on the North Shore from Pipeline and Laniakea. They said lifeguards rescued 15 people and took over 800 "preventive actions" to keep people safe on Tuesday.

Lifeguards on jet skis saved a surfer who lost his board at Laniakea and a woman swimming at Sharks Cove who was pulled out into the ocean, according to KITV Island News.
