Vail Resorts' Wisconsin Ski Area Gives Candid Conditions Report

Wilmot Mountain Resort, Wisconsin—a member of Vail Resorts' portfolio—issued a "candid" update on its current conditions earlier today.

Spoiler alert: the mountain, like the rest of Wisconsin, needs more snow.

"Our conditions are perfect for those who know what to expect upon arrival," Wilmot Mountain wrote. "It's April skiing in February. If you visit us, please bring an open mind and a positive attitude."

That's about as candid as it gets. Another resort might use coded language to describe its conditions, but Wilmot didn't rely on such pleasantries. The message is clear: it's been a tough season, and Wilmot's slopes don't look as snowy as skiers would normally expect for this time of year.

The post noted that the resort is having "one of the warmest February in history." Conversely, the "après conditions remain consistent; the beer is still cold, and the cheese curds gooey."

It's commendable that Wilmot's keeping it real about all this. And the promise of gooey cheese curds and cold beer softens the blow slightly—Wisconsin doesn't play around when it comes to cheese.

Similarly appreciable is Wilmot's operations team. In some seasons, ski resorts get enough snow (but not too much!) to run smoothly. You groom, you open runs, you make a little snow. Things are relatively uncomplicated—I'm not saying running a ski resort is easy.

Then, during years like this, it's a constant fight between resort and Mother Nature. And you know who the frontline soldiers are in this fight?

Patrollers, lifties, cat drivers, restaurant employees... the list continues. Navigating Wilmot's difficult season wouldn't be possible without their hard work. So, next time you get the chance, thank a resort employee at Wilmot or wherever else you happen to be skiing. And, while you're at it, think cold.
