Utah Ski Area Surpasses 500 Inches Of Snow On The Season

Alta Ski Area, Utah, surpassed 500 inches of snowfall this season yesterday.

The resort shared the news of the milestone in a post on X.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, Alta averages 547 inches of snow each year, so the odds that the resort will at least see an average winter this season are relatively good if the storms keep coming.

The resort's current momentum wasn't a given, thanks to a slow start snowfall-wise.

Then, February arrived, which proved to be the wettest and third snowiest on record, with 154.5 inches of snow—that's 5.3 inches per day. Alta dubbed the month "Free Refills February."

"It's insane that Alta had 900 inches last year. 500 is an impressive number, but it's just over half what Alta got LY!" wrote a commenter below Alta's announcement, comparing this season to the last, when the resort broke its snowfall record.

Alta shared an interesting point of comparison: this time last season, it already had 665.5 inches, well above average. And the snow kept coming, eventually stopping past the 900-inch mark.

We probably won't see a similar outcome this winter, but this much remains true: it seems like it's always snowing at Alta.
