“Spend a night on the new town with a shady character from the past, who’ll show you around to the saloons, gaming halls, theaters and houses of ill-fame — places you can only see in the twilight,” the museum’s website reads. “Meet swindlers, soiled doves and Sankey speculators! Hear all the gossip on murders of passion, political intrigue and the century’s most notorious woman!”

Sacramento History Museum reaches new social media milestone

Tours depart at the Sacramento History Museum on 101 I Street in Old Sacramento and guests are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the start of the tour.

Tickets for the tour cost $30 and can be purchased online. Only people ages 18 and older are allowed on the tours. The museum said tickets are non-refundable, as all sales are final.

The museum recommends buying tickets early, as tours can sell out quickly.

The guided walking tour is half a mile and approximately lasts about 90 minutes. Tours will run rain or shine.

The museum recommends visitors wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes for the uneven terrain of the tour, as there will be unpaved dirt roads, train tracks, cobblestone streets, wooden sidewalks, and a downhill grade.

For younger audiences, the regular Old Sacramento Underground tour began on May 2 and will run every day through July 28.
