Twenty-four rescued dogs embark on freedom journey to Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Thanks to the compassion of numerous animal advocates, 24 rescue dogs are given a fresh start.

In a collaborative effort spanning the past two weeks, Happy Little Rescue in Grand Junction teamed up with Rez Roads Rescue and Pilots N Paws to transport 24 rescue puppies to Mesa County, hoping to find them forever homes.

Volunteer pilot Karl Wolff, a retired U.S. Air Force Navigator and General Aviation Pilot volunteering for Pilots N Paws touched down at Grand Junction Regional Airport on Monday, April 29, accompanied by six furry passengers from Parmer Paws Animal Outreach in Texas. This airborne delivery, combined with 15 puppies transported by van from Towac three days earlier, brought the total count to 24 new wagging tails at Happy Little Rescue.

“The roster of furry passengers that day included a litter of five three-month-old mixed breeds and a two-month-old Terrier mix,” shared Wolff. “With eager tail wags and a bit of ‘who are you…where are we going now,’ all my passengers settled into their onboard cages,” he added enthusiastically.

Pilots N Paws facilitates rescues by enabling the transfer of dogs across state lines to alleviate overcrowded shelters. However, executing such large-scale transfers requires a collaborative effort involving numerous volunteers. Happy Little Rescue coordinated with five organizations and at least four individual volunteers, including Wolff, to bring these puppies to Grand Junction in the hopes of them finding loving homes.

“It’s heart-wrenching when capacity constraints prevent us from extending help to those in dire need,” remarked Danielle Dyer, director of Happy Little Rescue. “We’re immensely grateful to assist other rescues, knowing firsthand their challenges.”

For those interested in welcoming a furry friend into their family, the newly arrived adoptable puppies and adult dogs can be met at Happy Little Rescue’s weekly adoption events. Event schedules are available on their website here.
