Archeological School Day at Fort Laurens Museum

BOLIVAR − Fort Laurens Museum will hold an Archeological School Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26. During the event, students will learn the importance of archaeology, how it is conducted and how it affects other fields of study. Students can participate a hands-on mock archeological dig, educational presentations, and museum tours where they can learn local history and view Revolutionary War artifacts. All activities meet Ohio educational standards for fourth through eighth grade.

The event is open to public and private school students and homeschoolers of all ages. Pre-registration is required. Admission is $7 per student and free for one adult per group, with additional adult tickets at $7 each.

Heritage Center’s Queens Tea is Saturday

DENNISON – The Clay Capital Heritage Center’s annual Queens Tea will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Streetside Center across from the Dennison Depot. This year’s tea party will feature a Moana theme. The party will consist of a light lunch, games and activities, a special coronation ceremony and the opportunity to meet with special visitors.

Tickets are $25 for nonmembers, and $20 for museum members. Buy tickets at claymuseum.eventbrite.com. Reservations are required. There is no age limit, but most little princesses tend to be 3 to 10 years old.

Healthy Kids Day at YMCA

DOVER – The Tuscarawas County YMCA will host its annual Healthy Kids Day from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the YMCA. This nationwide YMCA event is free and open to the community.

Registration is not required. The first 100 youth receive a YMCA swag bag. The event will include inflatables, Balloon Twisters, a caricature artist, The Mugicians, community partners, activities and crafts.

Programs on poetry, Earth Day

DOVER – In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Dover Public Library will host its annual poetry night at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. No registration required.

Carryout spaghetti dinner Friday

MIDVALE – The Midvale Methodist Church, 4383 State St., will have a curbside carryout spaghetti dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday (or until sold out) in front of the church. The dinner includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, and a brownie. Cost is a donation.

Auditions for 'Oliver!' this week

MILLERSBURG − Holmes Center for the Arts will hold in-person and video auditions Monday through Friday for Lionel Bart's Broadway musical, "Oliver!" to be performed June 21-23 at West Holmes High School's theater. "Oliver!" is the story of a malnourished orphan in a workhouse who becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets.

There are parts for children and adults of all ages. Auditions are at Holmes Center for the Arts in Berlin. Come prepared with a verse and/or chorus from a show tune. There are also script reading and dance portions of the audition.

Science fair names winner

NEWCOMERSTOWN – Newcomerstown High School recently held its annual Spring of the Arts / Science Fair.

Hayden Dakin’s project on "What Configuration of an Anode in a Microbial Fuel Cell Produces the Most Voltage?" was selected for this year's Best of Show. Students whose projects were rated superior were Kylie Bamberger, Kylie, Bamberger, Ethan Barker, Kaelyn Brandon, Alex Elliott, Lucy Foster, Paul Garabrandt II, Briley Little and Adriana Lopez-Hernandez.

Program topics at library are travel, spring, Titanic

NEW PHILADELPHIA – the Tuscarawas County Public Library System Main Library will host three upcoming programs. Local residents Glenn Mears and Renee Miskimmin will share their world travel experiences from Africa, Madagascar, and Dubai at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Local historian Noel Poirier will discuss the Dover Titanic Mystery at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Tuscarawas County resident Joseph Fried had arranged third-class passage for two families on the Titanic. Michael Gorletz accompanied by his wife and Andre Goledin with his children were to board the ship bound for the United States.

A family floral fest will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, and will include crafts and activities designed to capture the essence of spring, including live butterflies, a honey-tasting contest and floral tea testing.

Classic TV Time Music Revue is Saturday

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, 461 Robinson Dr. SE, will host the Classic TV Time Music Revue and auction from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The Trumpet Singers will perform some of television’s most memorable moments. The evening also will include dinner and a silent and basket auction. Cost is $40. Those older than 21 are welcome to bring their own adult beverage. For reservations, call 330-364-5111.

Library recycling eclipse glasses

DOVER − The Dover Public Library will accept donations of used eclipse glasses throughout the month of April. The glasses will be repurposed and recycled for future use in communities in other parts of the world through a nonprofit organization called Astronomers Without Borders. Donations will benefit people in other parts of the world who may not otherwise have a safe way to view upcoming eclipses. For more information, contact Jim Gill at 330-343-6123.
