TSA decides 'Star Wars': Galaxy's Edge souvenir 'thermal detonator' bottles aren't safe for the friendly skies

    UPDATED Sept. 2:
The TSA has officially reversed its position on the “thermal detonator” souvenir soft drink bottles available at the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge realm operating at both Disneyland and Disney World. “We have completed our review, and instructed our officers to treat these as an oversized liquid,” the agency said in a statement that was released on Aug. 30. That means the spherical Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite bottles can be included in any checked luggage. This is the answer Star Wars fans were looking for.

This never would have happened to Han Solo. When you fly the friendly skies after visiting the newest Disneyland and Disney World realm, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’re gonna have to leave your souvenir soft drink bottles at home. According to a report published in USA Today, the Transportation Security Administration won’t allow parkgoers to store their signature Galaxy’s Edge’s “thermal detonator” bottles in either carry-on or checked baggage. Available in Coke, Diet Coke and Sprite editions, the round bottles are mocked up to resemble explosive devices, but only unleash sugary sweetness when you pop the top.

The news of TSA’s bottle ban broke after one Star Wars fan tweeted at the official @AskTSA Twitter handle checking to see whether he could pack his “thermal detonator” bottle in his suitcase. The airline-safety agency promptly issued a response declaring that “replica and inert explosives aren’t allowed in either carry-on or checked bags.”

Thanks for asking! Replica and inert explosives aren't allowed in either carry-on or checked bags.

A TSA public affairs representative later confirmed that ruling to USA Today, which adds yet another twist to the ongoing saga of Galaxy’s Edge souvenirs, which are fetching a pretty penny on resale sites. To say that Disney stans and Star Wars fans are having a bad feeling about all of this is an understatement. In true Rebel fashion, many of them are tweeting at the TSA to challenge rules they feel are practically Palpatine-like in nature.

This is absurd. Furthermore they do not actually look like the explosive in the movie. Also. Thermal detonators are not real.

I travel weekly and it's alarning how inconsistent & useless the TSA is. These items aren't replicas because the original items ARE A WORK OF FICTION. TSA doesn't keep us safe. At all. Trust me.
