I Tried All 10 of Aldi's New Wines — These Are the 3 Bottles I'd Buy Again

If you're anything like me, you understand the bliss of unwinding with a glass of wine after a long day. Hearing that cork pop and the wine pour into the glass can be music to the soul. To me, wine isn't just a beverage—it's an opportunity to immerse yourself in different cultures. And this is precisely what Aldi had in mind when they introduced their premium wine collection under the Specially Selected label.

Although the collection uses the term "premium," none of the 10 bottles cost more than $14.99. Inexpensive wines often have a stigma attached, but these bottles reflect Aldi's commitment to keeping prices low, while also delivering a high-quality product.

Carefully curated from longstanding partnerships with distinguished wineries in various wine regions, such as Côtes de Provence (France), Uco Valley (Argentina), Marlborough (New Zealand), Rioja (Spain), and more, this collection represents more than 40 years of Aldi's global wine sourcing. They collaborated with more than 150 wineries worldwide to bring this collection to life.

The new line, which officially hit stores on September 8, includes 10 different bottles, starting at just $7.99. I had the good fortune to taste my way through all 10, and there were three that I'm definitely adding to my must-buy list.

Canadian Icewine Vidal, $14.99

Akeesha Williams

I've never had the chance to visit Canada, but Aldi's Specially Selected Canadian Icewine Vidal ($14.99) ignited a desire in me to change that ASAP. This ice wine, a dessert wine made from grapes that are frozen on the vine, immediately caught my attention with its super-sleek bottle.

When I poured the wine into the glass the aroma alone hinted that this would become a personal favorite. It was that initial sip, however, that truly left me feeling like this was the one. The interplay of peach, lemon, and toffee notes complimented each other well and though this wine leaned toward the sweeter side, it struck the perfect balance, delivering a velvety experience, just as it claims.

They suggest pairing the wine with the Cocoa Cardona cheese, an aged goat cheese that they sell at Aldi. It is a great wine for sipping with snacks, but I went a little off-script and tried it with spicy vodka pasta, which proved to be a great combination.

French Sparkling Rosé, $10.99

Another top pick was the French Sparkling Rosé. I’m a sparkling rosé girl through and through, so I was excited to try this one. The bottle itself is a work of art, and the wine was effervescent and nicely balanced. It had a touch of sweetness but wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. I enjoyed it so much that the bottle is nearly empty (OK, it is empty).

Burrata, which you can also conveniently find at Aldi, was the suggested pairing. However, I must admit that I'm a simple girl and I always enjoy a glass of rosé with a classic burger and fries. There's something about the high-low combination that elevates the meal in the most enjoyable way.

New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, $9.99

This last wine truly took me by surprise. I typically don't lean towards white wines, but the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc made me rethink my stance. And while I wasn't initially enthusiastic about trying it, after just one sip, I'm so glad I did.

The first thing you notice is the citrusy scent. Once you start sipping, the juicy tropical flavors kick in. This is the kind of wine you stash in the fridge so you can have a crisp, refreshing glass after a long day of work.

For pairings, the Aldi folks suggested the mild, nutty Mobay cheese, but sipping it gave me other ideas. I think it would be great with your Thanksgiving turkey or even paired with a simple grilled cheese sandwich.

While these three wines were my personal favorites, I wholeheartedly recommend exploring all 10 wines in the collection, including those you might not usually gravitate towards. Whether you consider yourself a wine connoisseur or are just looking for some wine to have around the house, this collection is for you. With each sip, you'll embark on a journey around the world, discovering the diverse flavors and characteristics that each bottle has to offer. It's a wine experience that combines quality, variety, and affordability—all in one place. What you discover might surprise you.
