Travel + Leisure names Palm Beach to list of best beach towns on America's East Coast

Photogenic sunsets. Towering palm trees. High-end shopping and dining.

These are among the reasons cited by Travel + Leisure magazine in choosing Palm Beach for its list of the "12 Best Beach Towns on the East Coast."

The list, published online May 12, looks north to south along America's Eastern Seaboard for the best spots for travelers, the magazine said. Palm Beach is one of the "most glittery" and photo-ready towns on the East Coast, the publication said, with a range of offerings from beaches to high-end shopping on Worth Avenue.

The list quoted Palm Beach-based clothing designer Caroline Broome of the Tillie brand as saying that the town's scenery makes it feel like stepping into a postcard. "With breezy palm trees, blooming flowers and beautiful colors around every corner, the inspiration is endless," Broome told Travel + Leisure.

The list entry for Palm Beach suggests visitors stop by the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, consider staying at The Breakers or The Brazilian Court Hotel, grab lunch at Buccan Sandwich Shop, and have a cocktail at HMF at The Breakers or Florie's at the Four Seasons Resort.

Other towns on the list are Kennebunkport, Maine; Newport, Rhode Island; Montauk, New York; Chatham and Nantucket, Massachusetts; Ocean City, Maryland; Duck, North Carolina; Sullivan's Island and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; and St. Simons Island and Tybee Island, Georgia.

Palm Beach and its hotels and restaurants are frequently included on lineups of best places to visit, stay and dine. Late last year, New York Travel Guides named Palm Beach one of the most romantic small towns in America, and Veranda magazine named the town one of the 10 best places in the world to travel in December.

The Breakers Palm Beach in March was named a top place to have a babymoon, and four Palm Beach hotels in October were named by Elle Decor as top cold-weather escapes.
