New trail established at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve

MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) — Hikers can now walk on a new trail in the Buffalo Trace Prairie at the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve.

The Champaign County Forest Preserve District announced the newly mowed trail on a Facebook post. Officials installed the trail to eliminate two parallel trails.

“The trail system modification eliminates redundancies, provides a more enjoyable user experience, and accommodates future habitat projects at the site,” part of the post reads. “Please stay off of the eliminated trails and follow the signs to the new one!”
