Traffic Stops to Let Family of Geese Pass and Woman Can’t Stop Giggling

Humans can be pretty rough with each other, but every once in a while we can band together for the right cause. For one woman, that right cause was a family of geese that stopped traffic at a busy intersection. And the sweet way that everyone stopped for the animals has people swooning online.

Thank goodness Sierra had her phone on her because the footage she got is absolutely precious.

Sierra was parked when she happened to notice the geese walking down the sidewalk towards the intersection. It was two adult geese with their baby. For a moment there, things looked a little dicey. The intersection was busy and it wasn't clear that people were going to stop.

"Are they going to cross the road?" Sierra asked from behind the camera.

The light was green, but Sierra and her car stopped completely to let the geese pass. As the animals walked by not a single car honked their horn or pressured Sierra's car to start driving.

"Sometimes you get reminded about how gentle humans can be — everyone stopping at a green light to let this little family across," she wrote in the caption.

In the clip Sierra couldn't stop giggling as the geese walked by, and people in the comments section were just as charmed. "The fact that they use the sidewalk AND the crosswalk is just so cute to me lol," wrote one person. "I’m upset the sheriff driving by didn’t stop to escort them to safety," someone else joked. "I once saw a guy get off his motorcycle to escort a family of ducks across a five lane street," another commenter shared.

Keeping Animals Safe on the Road

As far as animal crossings go, this was definitely the best case scenario. But it's not always as easy to get traffic to stop to protect wildlife. If you want to make sure you don't hit animals crossing the street one of the best things you can do is follow the speed limits. Many animals get hit by people speeding who are unable to stop.

Time of day can also impact if animals get hit. If it's dawn, dusk, or the first few hours after it gets dark it can be harder to see wildlife crossing the road. Keep an eye out for critters and their babies, which might be following behind and will be more difficult to see.

Staying alert and slowing down are the best things you can do while driving. If not for your own sake, for the protection of animals who depend on us to keep them safe.
