Wonka star Timothée Chalamet has developed a strong working relationship with director and writer Greta Gerwig. The actor appeared as a love interest in Gerwig's 2017 coming-of-age film Lady Bird opposite Saiorse Ronan and in 2019's Little Women alongside stars like Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, and Meryl Streep.

With this summer's Barbie, Gerwig smashed several box office records and holds the crown for most successful movie of all time directed by a woman. She brought together an all-star cast for the movie, but frequent collaborators Ronan and Chalamet were absent from Barbieland.

It turns out Chalamet and Ronan were actually considered to appear in the film. Chalamet dished on the cameo that never happened in an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"I don’t know what the cameo would have been," he confessed. "I think I would have been one of the rejected Kens or Barbies."

"Not Allan, but something," he continued. "Maybe there was a reject French one along the way."

Chalamet holds dual American and French citizenship thanks to his father and is bilingual in both English and French. Despite not appearing in the Barbie movie, the Call Me By Your Name actor is doing just fine. He's helmed major movies in recent years like Dune and Bones and All and is set to reprise his Dune role in the upcoming sequel next year. He's also a noted Nicki Minaj fan, so even if he didn't appear in the Barbie movie, he's still a Barb.

Gerwig spoke about Ronan and Chalamet's scrapped cameos earlier this year. Both actors couldn't make it due to scheduling conflicts, but Gerwig was open to the idea of having them to work together once again. "Timothée did come by the set and said 'Ah, I should have been in this,'" she said. "They feel like my children."

Maybe Chalamet can be a Ken in the inevitable Ken movie.
