Timothée Chalamet has been a working actor for the better part of a decade now, but he's still a newcomer by Hollywood standards. So when a veteran actor like Tom Cruise gives you advice, you listen.

In a new interview with GQ, Chalamet reflected on what the Top Gun star told him in an email and how Cruise helped him get a leg up in his burgeoning acting career.

"After I met Tom Cruise, right after finishing the first Dune, he sent me the most wonderfully inspiring email," Chalamet recounted. Besides some great advice, Cruise also gave Chalamet contact information for professionals in stunt training, including a motorcycle coach and helicopter coach. "He basically said, 'In Old Hollywood, you would be getting dance training and fight training, and nobody is going to hold you to that standard today. So it’s up to you,'" Chalamet remembered. "The email was really like a war cry."

Chalamet was grateful to receive that kind of personal help from Cruise, especially coming off the veteran actor's box office smash with Top Gun: Maverick. While Chalamet was filming Dune: Part Two in the summer and fall of 2022, he saw the action flick eight times, one time even buying out a theater in Budapest to take the whole Dune cast and crew.

"Top Gun was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making Dune," the Wonka star admitted. "Some of the crew were kind of scoffing at going, but I just thought it was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen."

At this point, it's only a matter of time before the two Hollywood heavy hitters join forces on screen.
